Hi, I’m George Spiller

I have started this blog to share my thoughts & observations on Lean  Engineering Principles & Innovation – primarily as it pertains to gigacasting, electric vehicles and 3D.  I hope to foster discussions on the real issues facing manufacturing,, die casting, robotics and the up and coming 3D marketplace and hope you will comment and share your insights on these topics.

I am a mechanical engineer who has worked both in Canada and the U.S.  primarily in the automotive and now material handling industries. As an inventor with 3 patents to my name, I gravitate towards the new and have recently begun creating CAD files for 3D printing and prototyping. I have also been called a “Turnaround Specialist” and using automation I have helped several companies “turn around” facilities that were losing money into major profit centers (the most recent being a facility that was losing $2Million/yr into one that made $5million/yr)

I guess I have always believed in operating lean (though I haven’t found a way to get lean government yet  :)) and have helped many of my clients adopt a lower cost, creative solution that streamlined their operations.  When I read Eric Reis’ book “The Lean Start-up” I had a halleluiah moment and I realized that this was a concept and methodology that I believed in and could promote to my clients.

Through my business, The Venture Spot, I strive to alleviate the pain points for my clients my inventing creative solutions to manufacturing problems while increasing their profitability through the implementation of lean principles – hence “The Lean Innovator”.  I am available to assist manufacturers with issues in lean processes & tight margins and companies in vehicle parts manufacturing with modular plant processes, lean material handling options, robotic automation and custom designed lifting equipment.
